As the year draws to a close, we want to thank everyone who participated in our events, from our workshops and discussion groups on such topics as active listening, racism, and internalized homophobia, to our beach day at Hanlan’s Point, our board games night at The Steady, and our screening of The Life and Times of Marsha P. Johnson in response to the movie, Stonewall. You’ve all helped to make OurSpace’s first year a huge success, and we’re so excited that you share our vision and passion for creating community and capacity among guys who like guys in Toronto.
We’re especially proud of the Our Stories series – which secured us the grand prize from ArtReach’s Youth Pitch Contest – and we want to thank everyone who submitted, read, or shared these courageous coming out stories. It may seem like the LGBTQ2S movement has “made it” in many respects, but it’s vitally important to keep retelling our stories to remember where we’ve come from and how far we’ve progressed.
You can view the entire series here: http://ourstoriesxourspace.tumblr.com/
Stay tuned for another Our Stories series next year on another important topic!
OurSpace is also reorganizing itself to create opportunities for more guys to get involved in our collective. Stay tuned for more information in the new year about that, as well!
Our next event will be a Queer Person of Colour discussion group on Wednesday, January 20, from 6:30-8:30 at the 519. We’ll be posting the Facebook event with more details soon.
From all of us at OurSpace, have a great holiday season and a happy new year!
